Cobras News · Cobra Wrestling Advances to 3rd round, host Summerville on Monday

The Region 7-5A Champion Cane Bay Wrestling Team hosted the 1st and 2nd round of the 5A Lower State Duals Playoffs on Saturday.  The Cobras wrestled Irmo in the 1st round and defeated the Yellow Jackets 52-18.  Chapin defeated Conway 52-18 in the other 1st round matchup at CBHS.

This would set up a rematch of the 4A Lower State Championship Match from last season.  The Cobras opened up with a decision by Devon Anthony to take a 3-0 lead.  Chapin answered with two wins by decision to take a 6-3 lead.  Senior Cody Ladd picked up a pin for the Cobras to give a 9-6 lead.  After a decision for Chapin, Spencer Wall recorded a pin to give the Cobras a 15-9 lead.  Chapin looked to turn the match in their favor as they recorded two pins and a forfeit to take a 27-15 lead with 5 matches to go.  The Cobras then got pins by Chase Smith and Malachi Jones to tie the match at 27 with 3 matches to go.  Chapin picked up a pin to take a 33-27 lead.  Junior Domenic D’Antico recorded a major decision to cut the lead to 2 at 33-31 for Chapin.  Senior Dougie Metts delivered in the final weight recording a 35 second pin to win the match 37-33.

The Cobras will now host the Summerville Greenwave on Monday night at 7:00pm in the 3rd round of the 5A Lower State Playoffs.  Cobra Fans are asked to wear WHITE to the match on Monday.  The first 100 Cane Bay Students wearing WHITE will be given a ticket to enter the match.  The winner of this match will wrestle in the Lower State Championship on Wednesday.
