Cobras News · Cobra Softball wins 5A District 5 Championship, Lower State begins Friday

There will be a new 5A State Champion thanks to the Cobras.  The Cobras scored runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings and that was enough to defeat White Knoll, the defending state champion 3-1.  7th grader Jenna Krol got things going in the 2nd with a triple.  The next hitter Ciera Fenton singled in Krol to make it 1-0 Cobras.  White Knoll tied it back up with a solo home run by Mackenzie McElroy.  North/South All-Star Mallena Wright led off the top of the 3rd with a double to right field.  Smiley Kinloch bunted Wright over and reached on a WK error.  Hailey Howell came up and laid down a perfect bunt for a squeeze play to give the Cobras the lead for good at 2-1.

Fenton led off the top of the 4th with single.  Courtland Salter bunted Fenton into scoring position and then Mallena Wright doubled her in to make it 3-1.  Senior Joey Lawhorn and 7th Jenna Krol combined to pitch a 4 hitter.  Krol pitched 4 and 2/3 in relief giving up only 1 hit.

The Cobras will now play in the 5A Lower State Bracket starting tomorrow night as they travel to South Florence.  Game time is scheduled for 6pm.  Lexington will travel to Ashley Ridge on Friday as well.
